If you're coming to Vlorë, don't just Google “things to do in Vlorë” and follow the first list you see. Vlorë is the kind of place you understand much better when someone local tells you where they actually go.
So here's what I'd tell a friend.
What Vlorë is known for
The sea
For me, this is the obvious one. Vlorë has a completely different feeling from other Albanian cities because the sea is basically part of everyday life here. You have the bay right in front of you, and then as you go south, the landscape starts changing toward the Ionian coast.
Karaburun & Sazan
If you only do one proper boat trip, I'd make it this one. Karaburun has those clear-water little bays where you actually want to jump straight off the boat. Sazan is interesting too because it isn't just beaches — there's a whole history behind the island.
Independence
Vlorë isn't just a beach city. This is where Albania declared independence in 1912. Independence Square and the surrounding old part of the city are worth seeing, especially if you want to understand why Vlorë is so important to Albanians.
Lungomare
This is where I'd go when I don't have a plan. Walk, get a coffee, sit by the sea, grab something to eat and stay until sunset.
Honestly, Lungomare is much better in the evening. That's when Vlorë actually comes alive.
Food
Vlorë is a great place if you like seafood, grilled meat, olive oil and proper southern Albanian food. Don't come here expecting everything to be fancy or touristy. Some of my favourite meals are the simple ones.
5 things I'd actually do
1. Karaburun & Sazan
This is my #1 recommendation if it's your first time.
Spend the day on the water, swim in the bays, explore the caves and stop around Karaburun. Sazan adds something different because of its history.
I'd go early, especially in summer.
If a friend came to Vlorë and asked me “What's the one thing I shouldn't miss?” — this is probably what I'd tell them.
2. Walk Lungomare at sunset
I wouldn't necessarily come here at 12 pm just to walk around.
Come around sunset, get a coffee or something to eat and just walk along the water.
This is one of those things that costs basically nothing but gives you a really good feeling for the city.
3. Zvërnec & Narta
This is one I think tourists sometimes overlook.
You get the lagoon, the little bridge through the trees and Zvërnec Monastery. It's much quieter than being around Lungomare.
I'd combine it with a sunset if you have the time.
4. Kaninë Castle
If you want to see Vlorë from above, I'd go here.
The view over the city and bay is the main reason I'm recommending it.
And again — sunset.
I wouldn't go in the hottest part of the afternoon. You're basically asking to cook yourself.
5. Independence Square & Old Vlorë
This is the side of Vlorë I'd recommend if you want something besides beaches.
Walk around Independence Square, see the monument and explore some of the older streets.
It won't take your entire day, but it's worth spending an hour or two here.

10 restaurants I'd actually recommend
I'm not going to tell you every restaurant is “amazing.” That's useless.
Different places are good for different things.

1. Sofra e Lakrorit
My choice for traditional food.
If you want something that feels properly Albanian rather than a generic tourist restaurant, this is the type of place I'd choose.
I'd come here when I want lakror and traditional southern Albanian food.

2. The Yacht
My choice for a nicer dinner.
If I'm taking someone somewhere and I want the whole evening to feel a little more special, this is one I'd consider.
Good choice when you want sea views + a nicer setting + dinner.

3. 4 Stinët
My safe all-round choice.
If we're a group of friends and everyone wants something different, this is the type of restaurant I'd pick.
You don't have to overthink it.

4. Te Fabio
For seafood.
If you're in Vlorë and want seafood, this is the direction I'd look.
I'd choose this when the plan is basically: sit down, order seafood and stay for a while.

5. Tre Forchette
When I'm not in the mood for Albanian food.
Sometimes you just want pasta, pizza or something Italian.
This would be one of my choices for that.

6. El Mar
Seafood with a more modern feel.
I'd choose this for a nicer dinner, especially if you're with someone and don't want a super casual place.

7. Taverna Te Lilo
Traditional and relaxed.
This is more the kind of place I'd recommend when someone says:
“I don't care about fancy. Just take me somewhere with good Albanian food.”
Exactly.

8. Pizzeria Trattoria Jonçe
Pizza night.
Not every meal on holiday needs to be serious.
If we're tired after the beach and want pizza, this is the kind of place I'd consider.

9. Paradise Beach Restaurant
Beach day lunch.
I'd use this differently from the others.
Go to the beach, swim, get hungry, eat without having to turn it into a whole restaurant night.

10. Taverna Te Saçi
For grilled meat.
If seafood isn't your thing, go for the meat.
This is the type of place I'd have in mind when I'm craving something grilled and filling.

1. The Yacht Hotel
If you want something premium, I'd start here.
You're right by the sea and Lungomare, so you don't feel like you're staying somewhere disconnected from Vlorë.
I'd put friends here if they want: luxury, beach, views and a nice hotel experience.

I'd recommend it to a couple who wants somewhere modern and doesn't necessarily need a huge resort.

Pools, beach, restaurants and everything you need around you.
It's more of a proper resort holiday.

Get a pastry with it.
That's part of the experience.

I'd come here when I want to sit down properly rather than grab something and immediately leave.

If I'm meeting someone and we just want an easy coffee without making a whole plan, this is the kind of reliable option I'd choose.

More casual.
I'd put this on the list for someone who just wants to sit, have a coffee and watch Vlorë go by.
Things I'd tell my friends before they come
- Don't plan your entire day around Google Maps. Summer traffic can change everything.
- Don't only see the beach in central Vlorë. Go further south and you'll see why people talk about the coastline.
- Do the boat trip early. Especially during the busy summer months.
- Go to Lungomare in the evening. That's when I'd personally choose it.
- Don't eat every meal directly on the tourist strip. Walk around a little. Some of the better local experiences aren't necessarily the restaurants with the biggest signs.
- Try proper Albanian food. You've come all this way — don't spend the entire trip eating the same food you eat at home.
